18th Katti: [Action]

[Lyn has been trying for over a year now to actually get enough strength from Kipinn to fly. The most she's ever been able to do, however, is hover an inch off the ground.

So today she's trying a new tactic. Her wings spread wide, or as wide as the tiny Filial wings can get, she forces the wind into them directly, giving herself something to push off of as she begins to flap.

With this wind combined with the air pooling around her feet, pushing up against her, she begins to rise... one inch, then two, until at last she's a foot off the ground. She beams widely, ready to celebrate her triumph over gravity...

When the wind abruptly rips a few feathers from her wings. This is incredibly painful, and she gasps in pain before losing control of the wind, which dissipates. She falls to the earth, landing in a heap. A foot isn't that far to fall, but the way she dropped was twisted enough to give her a nasty gouge on one of her arms and a scraped hand and knee.

She lies on the ground for a moment before the shock caused by the pain in her wings wears off, then crawls her way to her feet, wincing.
]

Spirits, that hurts... I think I've tried everything now.

... I wonder if there are any healers nearby.

[Grimacing, she starts to make her way back into the village.]

Precisely. Kipinn, the spirit of wind to be specific. I tried to gather enough wind to lift myself off the ground, and it almost worked... but even with the spirit's aid, these wings are just not strong enough.

...I see. It almost worked? For how long?

A few seconds, long enough for me to get about a foot in the air.

Ah. How unfortunate that it did not last longer.

I was very disappointed, but... I suppose there's nothing that can be done about it.

Yes.

...May I ask how you contacted Kipinn? I...have been curious about the spirits for a while now.

My, it's been quite some time... actually, I had a little help with Kipinn in particular. A friend of mine, by the name of Valvalis, is very tied in with the element of wind, and she showed me how to speak to Kipinn. It was easiest up high, in places where the wind itself is strongest, such as the mountains.

You spoke to the spirit?

Of course. You can speak to all of the Luceti spirits.

I did not know they were capable of verbal communication...

[That's what he thinks when she says they can speak, after all. Though he shouldn't really be surprised at that either...the Djinn are the same way.]

Well they can understand what I say. Whether they're actually speaking back or... putting their words into my mind somehow, I can't quite say.

So...it is more of a feeling.

Well, it's more mental than verbal, at least.

[Don't mind him muttering this, to himself more than anything.]

So they are somewhat similar to the Djinn, yet different...

I wouldn't know. I've never encountered a "Djinn".

They are elemental spirits in my world. Unfortunately, they are quite elusive.

[...still happy that he got to keep 3, at least.]
