2nd Katti: [Action]

[So Lyn's had a strange time adjusting to Luceti.  On the good side, she found three of her friends almost immediately after arriving.

On the bad side, she's trapped, she's been told to expect unpleasantness from the Malnosso, and one of said friends has been kidnapped.

How does she intend to deal with the stress this brings on her?  Training!  She's out in a clearing away from general foot traffic, Mani Katti drawn, going through various battle stances.  Interrupt?  Challenge her?  Or just watch?  The choice is yours.

Yes, I'd say it's very important information.

My grandfather was almost killed by his brother, and that's only the beginning... if I told you all the corrupt noble stories I knew, we'd be here all afternoon.

All right, I'll look for it when I get back to the room. Thanks.

Seriously? What's with all these complications involving nobles?

. . . Wait. You said corrupt noble stories and you mentioned your grandfather. Does that mean you're a noble?

[action]

[identity profile] upontheplains.livejournal.com 2009-04-16 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Not a problem. We have to look out for each other here.

Well... I was going to be the next Marquess of part of a country, but in all honesty, I wasn't really cut out for the job. I ended up handing command over to another noble of the same country that I knew I could trust. So I was, technically, but not anymore.

So then you're a former noble -- not that that's a bad thing! You seem like a decent person, and not all nobles and royalty have something going on in their head.

Yeah.

I'm not really cut out to be a noble, when it comes down to it. I was raised on the plains of Sacae, and I'm much more comfortable there than in a castle.

[action]

[identity profile] inferrer.livejournal.com 2009-04-16 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Why were you living outside of the castle? Could it be that you were . . . banished?

[action]

[identity profile] upontheplains.livejournal.com 2009-04-16 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Not exactly. My grandfather didn't approve of my mother's choice of husband, so she ran away with my father. I didn't learn that I was a noble until I was seventeen.

[action]

[identity profile] inferrer.livejournal.com 2009-04-16 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
So . . . your parents ran off and had you all the way out in the plains? You grew up like a tribeswoman?

[action]

[identity profile] upontheplains.livejournal.com 2009-04-16 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep! It's one of the reasons they rarely ever used my full name, so that travelers wouldn't recognize it as being one used by a Marquess's wife. They named me after my grandmother you see.

[action]

[identity profile] inferrer.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
They used a nickname as a way of disguising you and your family's identity. That was a pretty smart thing for them to do. Was it when you were seventeen that they decided to tell you about your lineage?

[action]

[identity profile] upontheplains.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
No, actually...

When I was seventeen, my tribe was attacked by bandits. Nearly everyone, including my parents, was killed. My tribe fell apart, and I was alone until I met Mark.

[identity profile] inferrer.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. Sorry about that . . .

But, at least you're alive and healthy. They'd be happy to know that you're hanging on there with friends to help you.

[identity profile] upontheplains.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it was some time ago. I've moved on.

At any rate, I ended up under attack by some assassins who did know who I was, and a pair of knights loyal to my grandfather came to help me. When they learned of my identity, they insisted I return to my mother's home with them... I did, but only because I wanted to meet my grandfather.

[action]

[identity profile] inferrer.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
You did meet him, didn't you? Since you ended up passing your control over to another ruler, which means you must have gotten to him.

Not bad. You're not bad at all.

[action]

[identity profile] upontheplains.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, in the end we managed to make our way back to him, and took down my uncle, who'd been poisoning him to take the title for himself. My grandfather and I spent a few years together after that, interrupted by the war I mentioned... and then when he died, I went back to the plains I grew up in.

Well I'm glad you think so.

[action]

[identity profile] inferrer.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Why am I not surprised your uncle was trying to poison him of all things? At least you gave him what was coming. . . Back to your old life, huh?

The name's Sokka, by the way. What would your name be, O fellow tribes person?

[action]

[identity profile] upontheplains.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, we brought him down... I gave the final blow myself. Yes. It's less flashy, but... it's what I'm used to.

It's Lyn. Very good to meet you, Sokka. So what tribe are you from?

[action]

[identity profile] inferrer.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, if that's how you want to live your life, that's your choice. I find a simple life plan can be more tolerable than a complicated one with politics.

Nice meeting you, Lyn. I'm from the Southern Water Tribe.

[action]

[identity profile] upontheplains.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Thankfully, my friends thought the same as you. I was worried they'd be upset I was leaving them, but... they were all very supportive.

Water tribe, hmmm? I gather that means people in your tribe can control water like Azula and her brother control fire?

[action]

[identity profile] inferrer.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It's good to respect your friends' choices. You're naturally better adapted at living as a plains person.

Sort of. Here's the thing; my sister's the only one who can waterbend in my tribe. The Northern Water Tribe has plenty of them though.

Ah, so it's like magic back on my world, only a few people can use it. So you're what? A warrior? A tactician?

[action]

[identity profile] inferrer.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Just about; I like to classify bending as a form of magic. I'm a bit of both, actually, but I'm a warrior through and through.

[identity profile] upontheplains.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a good looking sword. Who taught you in it's use?

[action]

[identity profile] inferrer.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Made it myself. Master Piandao was the one who taught me.

[action]

[identity profile] upontheplains.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It was my parents who taught me. My sword, though... [She looks down at the Mani Katti.] It's an heirloom weapon from my people.
